April 2015: Race report from the Ginetta Junior Championship at Brands Hatch
Race report from the Ginetta Junior Championship at Brands Hatch
Munich, 07/04/2015: Last weekend my first car race in the Ginetta Junior Championship took place at Brands Hatch, England, as part of the British Touring Car Championship BTCC, with 50,000 spectators, LiveTV on ITV and lots of media representatives.
The whole weekend we had a great pace in the official practice sessions P2 and P3.
In qualifying I stuck in traffic and my fastest laps were stopped by 2 red flags in 15 minutes. So I was a little disappointed with P5, mainly because the official timings took me as the fastest "perfect lap".
Race 1 started very hard from the start line. From the beginning I was involved in battles for position, so the first four cars were able to pull away. Without slipstream and lasting look in the rearview mirror, unfortunately I could not close the gap in the remaining rounds. I finished in fifth place, rookie P3.
Race 2 was very unhappy. Already in the second corner I was pushed to the front man, thereby the securing of the hood broke. Indeed the race was canceled in the first round. In the restart I was allowed to take my place on the grid. As much as possible my team tried to fix the hood with tape. After the restart, it came with a light touch overtaking. With the result that after the second round end of the start/finish the hood ripped off and I slipped briefly into the gravel. Now without hood I hurried after the field and crossed the finish line at P21. Here my lap time at the end without hood, bent tie rods and steering slate was only 3/10 sec slower than the fastest lap of the race.
Charlie Kemp, Teamchef HHC Motorsport: “Sophia had a very good pace during the whole weekend and she showed everybody how fast she is. She just didn’t have luck in the last race but if we keep it up we will be able to go for a podium in two weeks at Donington Park.”
